EWC 2026 Day Three: The Playoff Field Is Complete

The Group Stage is over, and it did not hand out a single easy way through. Shopify Rebellion, Twisted Minds, Gentle Mates, and Karmine Corp took the four remaining playoff places, joining Vitality, NiP, Spacestation, and Falcons. Eight elimination series reduced the field to eight; several ran all the way to the final game.

This was the day the bracket stopped rewarding promise and started punishing small mistakes. A team either found a way to win two series in a day or started packing for home.

Group A: Shopify and Twisted Minds escape

Shopify Rebellion began the day by beating FUT Esports 4-3. FUT had won Games 1, 3, and 4, putting Shopify one loss from an early exit. Shopify answered with three straight wins to complete the reverse sweep — the kind of recovery that changes the mood of an entire bracket.

NRG beat FURIA 4-1 — 2-0, 2-0, 1-4, 2-1, 2-1 — to keep its tournament alive. There was no time to celebrate it. Shopify then swept TSM 4-0, while Twisted Minds eliminated NRG 4-1. Shopify and Twisted Minds take the lower-side Group A playoff spots; FUT, FURIA, NRG, and TSM are out. For NRG, the defending World Champions, the weekend ended before the knockout stage.

Group B: KC comes back, Gentle Mates move on

MIBR.LOS beat Wildcard 4-0 on Thursday, and R8 Esports did the same to Five Fears. On Friday, Gentle Mates eliminated MIBR 4-0, booking their playoff place with no margin for error left. It was a sharp response from a team that had just lost a five-game series to Falcons and suddenly had nothing to spare.

The other Group B decider was the day's headline. R8 led Karmine Corp 3-0 before KC won four straight games for a 4-3 reverse sweep. A 3-0 lead is supposed to be a finish line in a best-of-seven, not a warning sign. KC changed the texture of the series in Game 4, then ended it with a 2-1 Game 7. The defending EWC champions are alive, but only just.

A day built for comebacks

Shopify and KC produced the two clearest examples of why a long series can feel like two different matches. Shopify were facing elimination at 3-1 against FUT before winning the final three games. KC were somehow in an even deeper hole, down 3-0 to R8, and needed four consecutive wins just to keep their title defence from ending before playoffs. Neither result was a routine advance; each one was a full change in momentum.

That matters because the group stage gave teams almost no time to sit with a bad loss. Shopify had to follow their reverse sweep with TSM, and they did so with a 4-0. Twisted Minds had to recover from their five-game loss to NiP and then eliminate NRG. The teams that made playoffs did not merely win an important series — they handled the compressed rhythm of the event better than the teams standing across from them.

The exits were brutal for different reasons. FUT had Shopify on the edge and could not get the last game. NRG recovered from the opening loss to TSM and beat FURIA, only to fall one series short of the playoff field. R8 came within a single game of removing the defending champions. Those margins explain why the final eight feels so open: no team that advanced had an entirely easy road.

What the bracket says now

The playoff draw makes the group results impossible to ignore. Karmine Corp's reward for the R8 comeback is a French derby with Vitality, the Group A team that qualified without dropping a series. Falcons face a Twisted Minds roster that has already shown it can win a best-of-seven under elimination pressure. Those are not warm-up matches; they are immediate tests of whether the group-stage form means anything once there is no lower bracket left.

On the other half, Spacestation bring a 3-0 win over KC and two major escapes into their match with Shopify. NiP, who survived the Group A upper bracket without an elimination match, draw Gentle Mates — a team that had to earn its place by sweeping MIBR. The field includes teams that arrived through both routes, and Saturday will settle whether rest or resilience is the more useful advantage.

The eight-team playoff field

  • Team Vitality
  • Ninjas in Pyjamas eStar
  • Shopify Rebellion
  • Twisted Minds
  • Spacestation Gaming
  • Team Falcons
  • Gentle Mates
  • Karmine Corp

The quarterfinals are set for August 15: Vitality vs Karmine Corp, Falcons vs Twisted Minds, Spacestation vs Shopify, and NiP vs Gentle Mates. From here, the format changes to a single-elimination playoff. Every series is best-of-seven.

For KC, the path is now brutally clear: a French derby against Vitality, then no second life. For Shopify, Twisted Minds, and Gentle Mates, Friday is proof that a lower-bracket start does not have to define the tournament. Saturday decides whether any of those hard-earned escapes can become a run at the trophy.
