Day Two at the Rocket League Esports World Cup had a very different feel from the frantic opener. The bracket began to separate the teams who could breathe from the ones who would spend Friday playing with the season on the line. By the end of it, Team Vitality, Ninjas in Pyjamas eStar, Spacestation Gaming, and Team Falcons were safely in the August 15-16 playoffs.
The upper bracket is not a trophy, but it is a gift at an event this short: a day to reset, scout the field, and arrive in the knockout stage without having had to survive a best-of-seven elimination series. The four teams below earned exactly that.
Group A: Vitality sweep, NiP outlast Twisted Minds
Vitality made the cleanest statement of the day, sweeping TSM 3-0. The series scores — 4-2, 3-2, 4-0 — tell the story of a competitive opening that became a decisive finish. TSM hung around in the middle game; Vitality made sure there was no late drama. After beating FURIA 3-1 on Day One, the French side reached playoffs without dropping a series.
NiP took the other Group A upper-bracket place with a 3-2 win over Twisted Minds. It was the sort of series that makes a short event feel cruel: NiP won the first two games, Twisted Minds refused to go quietly and took Games 3 and 4, then the decider ended 5-4. crr, Joreuz, and oaly. are headed to playoffs; Twisted Minds have to take the long way around.
Group B: Spacestation shock KC, Falcons survive
Spacestation delivered Day Two's biggest result: a 3-0 sweep of defending EWC champions Karmine Corp. KC had opened with a 3-0 over Wildcard and looked like a team settling into a title defence. Against SSG, they lost 3-2, 2-1, and 2-1. No collapse, no Game 4 — just three one-goal margins that all went North America's way. It was a sweep on paper, but every game demanded composure.
Falcons earned the final direct berth with a 3-2 win over Gentle Mates. Falcons took the first two games, Gentle Mates pulled level with 3-1 and 2-1 wins, and the Saudi side won the decider 3-2. That response mattered: the series could easily have become a collapse after the early lead disappeared. Instead, Rw9, Kiileerrz, and dralii are through; Gentle Mates remain alive below them.
The first eliminations
Group B also sent two teams home. MIBR.LOS swept Wildcard 4-0, while R8 Esports swept Five Fears 4-0. There is no soft landing in this format: a team can arrive after a strong regional season and be finished after two series. MIBR and R8 lived to see the group decider; Wildcard and Five Fears left in the 13th-16th tier.
Four different routes, one shared reward
Vitality got there by keeping the day simple. They had already done the difficult work against FURIA on the opening day, and their response to TSM was the kind of series that makes an opponent feel the pressure of every missed chance. A 3-0 score is not always a sign of dominance from the opening kickoff, but the 4-0 final game made their control impossible to miss.
NiP's route was less clean and arguably more valuable for it. They had already upset Shopify Rebellion on Day One, then showed they could win a series twice: once when they raced to the 2-0 lead, and again when Twisted Minds erased it. The 5-4 decider was not a statement of invincibility. It was a statement that this roster could stay together when the easy version of the match had disappeared.
Spacestation and Falcons earned their places in the same way the best teams tend to earn them at international events: they won the close moments. SSG took three one-goal games from KC. Falcons went from comfortably ahead to level and still closed out Gentle Mates. Both series leave plenty for their future opponents to study, but neither side has to play another group-stage map.
The pressure shifts to Friday
That is the real consequence of Day Two. Vitality, NiP, Spacestation, and Falcons can now watch the lower bracket knowing that their next match will be a quarterfinal. Everyone else has to play through a bracket where a strong first day no longer matters. KC, for example, entered Thursday as the defending champion and left needing to win two elimination series simply to get back to the main stage.
For the teams below the line, the format also changes the emotional equation. FUT, Shopify, FURIA, and NRG each have a chance to recover in Group A, but only two will remain. Gentle Mates, MIBR, KC, and R8 face the same arithmetic in Group B. Every one of those teams has shown enough at some point this week to believe a playoff run is possible. By the end of Friday, half of them will be gone.
What remains
Day Three decides the other four playoff places. In Group A, FUT meet Shopify Rebellion and FURIA meet NRG before the lower-bracket finals. In Group B, Gentle Mates face MIBR and Karmine Corp face R8. The winners reach playoffs. The losers are done.
